HELLO, I am Güven Parkın

I am a traveler, amateur photographer and blogger who adopts biking as a means of transportation, and I am also an adventure lover and dreamer.

This website is an environment where I try to help them, and share my experiences and knowledge for those who plan to dream together with people who dream of going on long tours by bike and maybe planning a bicycle tour that will last for years.

ABOUT ME:

I was born in Istanbul on 20.10.1983. My childhood was in Istanbul, and since the population was not very crowded at that time, the number of vehicles on the streets was low and it was easier to ride a bicycle; I had a Bmx with yellow wheels, so my acquaintance with the bike dates back to that time. The bike has always been on my side until I started college.

I graduated from Istanbul Technical University Meteorological Engineering Department in 2010. After graduating from university, I started my career as an engineer in government in Ankara and I have been working in Ankara for 7 years.

After living in a metropolis like Istanbul, the first year I came to Ankara, I had some problems adapting. Even people who do not work as civil servants act as officers; kiosks, ticketers, grocery stores start the day late and finish the day early. So you need to live more systematically. But you get used to it. As you get used to it starts to sink comfortably :) I need to find something and deal with it. Because I have time. What should I do, what should I do?

I miss the bike ride. When I decided to buy myself a bicycle for both sociality, activity and sports, I would go right and left, I would spend time wandering around, but I couldn't think that the situations would come to the levels to collect my things for a long time.

Later, I learned that there are cycling groups in various social media environments and that everyone can go and say hello and join the group, and I became a member of the West Ankara Cycling Group in Batıkent. I met nice people in the group and wandered around with them and learned how to behave in the city and the rules. Very enjoyable activities.

After a few months, they asked if anyone would like to participate in a 3-day cycling event in Marmaris. The name of the tour was the Carian Coast Bike Tour. So I thought, and why not? I wanted to experience it and joined the tour. When I came to Marmaris, we were waiting for a lot of bicycles in the area we were going to meet and I was excited. We met a lot of people there and set off. It was a 3-day tour but it was like an adventure for me. I enjoyed it very much.

I took the tour cycling idea here. It wasn't exactly a tour, but it ignited the fuse. I didn't know what I was falling into yet. After returning home I realized and officially started another life for me. I immediately started investigating. How long can I stretch this head? How far can I go? What is required?

As a result of my research which lasted about 1.5-2 years; I've learned how people plan long tours, what equipment they use, what kind of bikes they prefer, what they pay attention to during travel, where they sleep, how much money they spend and how they earn. Since I already have a job, I spent a great deal of money on my equipment and bicycle; Behold, I have not eaten, they say, or so I've collected my bike. Now it's time to experience more!

In June 2016, I went on a Ayvalık-Antalya tour to try both my bike and myself. It took up 20 days and I enjoyed it incredibly. I met a lot of people on the way. It was a tour of gaining experience, and the situation on the road is not always exactly the same as the plans at home. That's the adventurous side. On my way back home, the questions I had were: Where should I take the next round? I wonder how abroad? Can I do it?

As soon as I returned home, the new tour plans continued in full swing and I decided to go on my first overseas tour on 07.08.2017. The tour consisted of 6 countries - Bulgaria-Macedonia-Kosovo-Montenegro-Bosnia-Herzegovina-Serbia. And I crossed the Edirne border crossing to Bulgaria for the first time and went abroad with my bike. Looking at my mom and dad waving from behind created a bit of an dramatic atmosphere. I was more comfortable, but because I knew they had a lot of different thoughts in their minds, I had a constant tension. Because there was a ton of situations stemming from a lack of experience and knowledge. I didn't know what to do with excitement. It takes some time to get used to, but then you relax. After a week or so, you are well cooked and the state of shyness disappears. My Balkan tour lasted 30 days and I returned to Ankara. I felt so good, because I did it.

Then the world tour, which was already in my head, became more evident.

Then ... In April 2018, the door of a car parked on the side of the road suddenly opened at me when I was driving from home to work and I fell down and dragged down. My hip bone was broken. I've been addicted to a bed for three months at home. During this time; I had the opportunity to think more about my own life, my expectations, and how short the human life was, and that I had to live in full, and I got up. It was obvious now.

Those dreams will be real one day!  And plans getting deeper and deeper...

You can contact me here. I've tried to explain everything on my site as much as I can, but you can still ask questions, share what you want to share, and provide suggestions.

See you. Have a nice trip :)
